Hey everyone, just thought I would stop by to say hi and see how things are going around here. I haven't had much time to get on here since I broke my leg. I was certain that breaking my leg would mean lots of down time, and thus lots of Oppo time, but it has proven to be quite the opposite - I hardly seem to have any time to get on here anymore.
My recovery is going slow, but progressing. I am in week 3 out of the 12 weeks that I will not be able to walk or drive, and I am already starting to go a bit crazy from it. I have no idea how I am going to be able to make it all the way until February without driving a car. It is a terrible feeling being entirely reliant on other people to get around, and I hate feeling like I am imposing on people all the time.
How are things around here? Have I missed anything exciting?
Anyway, for those that are interested, here are some fun pictures of all of the new metal bits that are in my leg as well as the gnarly scars that I now have.

I had a friend who broke his back and neck a few weeks before they adopted their son. Couldn't turn his head down to look at the little guy and no nuzzling; in addition to no driving. Could be worse I guess. I never heard if you are going to make a full recovery or if the knee damage is going to limit your biking.

They told me that the knee went back together very well and I should be able to bike again. I will have an increased risk of developing arthritis in the knee in about 10 years or so, though. I am not sure what the time frame for getting back on the bike is. Hopefully it will be soon after I am able to walk again. My leg has already atrophied an alarming amount, I think that biking will actually be a very important part of getting my strength back.

Looking good man. Glad you're doing well and glad you back for as long as you can.

You have some very interesting metal pieces in your leg. Nice to see you here again!

I hope your mental health stays strong ... stuff like that can drive you crazy .

Ha. That is perfect.

I want to be there next time you board a plane.

Tibia plateau fracture? My mom had one of those. She had a suction cup bathmat thing slip out of under her and she slipped in such a manner where the corner of the bathtub made contact with the tibia right below her knee. Split the tibia right down the middle and chipped it.

Yeah, I think that is probably going to be the hardest part. So far I have kept in good spirits, but 12 weeks is an awful long time.

Ha. Yeah, my next trip through airport security should be an interesting adventure. I have no idea what to expect. The doctors told me they don't think it will set off the metal detectors, but I don't exactly want to count on that.

Glad to hear you're ok. I'm glad that I survived with smaller injuries with my little bike mishap in summer.

Yep, tibia plateau. I absolutely destroyed it. The doctors couldn't even count how many pieces there were.

Thanks $kay! Good to see you too.

Thanks! It is nice to be back on here, making me feel a like things are at least a little bit back to normal.

She fared off pretty well though, in the metal department. Only 3 titanium deck screws. And a lot of cadaver gel/paste.

Can't unsee.

Kinda wondered why you have not been posting. How did you do that?

Here's my metally bits, so we can feel some comradeship
a: was your accident on a bicycle or a motorbike?
b: do you have sweet vids of your fail?
a: mine was on a bicycle
b: umm ya!

keep on healing up man! I did 7 months without walking, and it sucked ass (luckily before I got my license)

Damn, that looks painful. Mine was on a bicycle too. I started going down, and put my leg out to catch myself, and the knee just buckled the wrong way. I don't have a cool video of the crash though :(
How are you dong now? Any lasting effects?

I crashed on my bike (bicycle) pretty hard and my knee buckled the wrong way. It absolutely shattered my tibia plateau. I can't put any weight on the leg for at least 12 weeks :(
![]() 12/03/2013 at 15:05 |

Damn. What did you do to cause that?

I was absentmindedly staring at the thumbnail for a while then realized what it was a picture of. Made me say "yaahhh" out loud. Hope the recovery goes good for you. Have you started doing any physical therapy for that yet, or does it have to heal for a bit first?

somehow pulled my hamstring with the attachment bones attached to it. Not only was I unable to walk, I had a mass of bone in my ass they needed to fix. It was super awesome

I'm not doing any serious physical therapy yet. They said that wont be until after I can put weight on the leg again (in February). In the meantime, they are just having me flex the knee regularly, to keep the joint from getting too creaky.

That sucks. 2 wheels bad for you. We order you to stay on 4. Hope you recover quicker.
![]() 12/03/2013 at 15:15 |

Ha. Thanks. For the time being, I have to keep to zero wheels - no driving allowed for 12 weeks. Once I am better though, I don't think there will be any way to keep me from betting back on the bike. In fact, I think it will be good exercise to get strength back in my leg.

Good point. You have to get back on the horse that threw ya.

not so painful, that day at least.
yeah, pretty lasting, neck and back pain stuff.
mine was dumb, hit one small jump and my feet slipped off the pedals so on the next bump I just went straight over the front.

Holy crap. That sounds awful.

ended my bicycle racing career...

Yay! Heiroglyphics tattos in future!
/sorry
Glad to hear you're doing ok albeit going slightly mental. It happens with injury recovery. And please, no matter how frustrating and/or painful recovery physical therapy is, don't skimp on it. Push through and work towards regaining max movement in your leg! Get well soon

Keep to Hot Wheels for the time being.

Yikes. That looks very painful. I hope the recovery is coming along, but it definitely sounds like a huge case of the hurry up and waits.
